Mastering disaster
29.07.2002 - CCL News
A survey by Macarthur Stroud claims
that 88% of European company directors are not taking
responsibility for disaster recovery planning. This
contrasts sharply with the US, where management consultant
Booz Allen estimates that 90% of CEOs are involved in
the process. In the UK, 90% of organisations have at
least a basic disaster recovery plan in place, however,
many companies do not keep the plan up-to-date due to
tight budgets and board level apathy about the issue.
Few businesses will survive without
rapid restoration of access to stored information and
data. Analyst group Gartner estimates that 40% of companies
that experience a disaster go out of business within
five years. Technical solutions are one of the ways
that businesses can plan for disaster. However, this
needs to backed up by business processes, culture and
awareness, and that means board level responsibility.
